Walt's program of international music will begin on Sunday, May 18 between 2 and 4pm, WEEKLY, on our community radio station.  What you will hear is music from numerous countries around the world, in their native language.  Most music will be of the "pop" variety, but some will include folk, jazz, ethnic, and other types of cultural offerings from languages such as French, Dutch, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Hawaiian (not foreign, but foreign language nonetheless, including slack-key guitar), German, Danish, Norweigian, Russian, Turkish, Hungarian, Chinese, Cuban, Indian, Greek, Polynesian, and hopefully, many others as my collection expands even though it is already rather extensive.

Performers will include the likes of: Yves Duteil, Enrico Macias, Gal Costa, Miel Cools, Jeff Chang, Haris Alexiou, Udo Jurgens, Mireille Mathieu, Boudewijn deGroot, Ka'Au Crater Boys, Umberto Tozzi, Loreena McKennit, Andrea Bocelli, Ivan Lins, Luis Bonfa, Liesbeth List, Paolo Conte, Israel Kamakawiwo`ole, Richard Cocciante, Lill Lindfors, Roch Voisine, Milva, Julio Iglesias, Habib Koite, Luis Miguel, The Chieftains, King Bennie Nawahi, Brody Janos, Roger Whitaker, Great Big Sea, Sergio y Estibaliz, Gigilola Cinquetti, Peter Mate, Enya, Luis Neefs, Georges Dalaras, Roberto Carlos, Jose Luis Rodriguez, Jose Luis Perales, Vanessa Amoroso, Wencke Meyre, Johnny Clegg & Savuka, Celine Dion, Gabby and Cyril Pahinui, Mana, Gilbert Becaud, Nana Mouskouri, Eros Ramazotti, Lara & Reyes, Sally Eng, Alabina, Karel Gott, Inkari, Los Bukis, Buckwheat Zydeco, Helena Vondrackov, Basia, Keola Beamer, Ladysmith Black Mombazo, Dorival Caymmi, Gilles Vignault, Bobby Ingano, Amistades Peligrosas, Dulces Pontes, Jan Schaffer, Vanessa da Mata, Georges Moustaki, Patrick Bruel, Age Aleksandersen, Anita Skorgan, Charles Aznavour, Alejandro Fernandez, Ottmar Liebert, Dire Straits, Julien Clerc,

and so many more they can't all be included here.

The first hour will always be a mix of different languages, although a cover song in another language or even English might be thrown in.  The second hour will be either more of the same, or, a focus on one language in particular such as French, or Portuguese.  There is so much great music in this world that so many of us never get to hear, or while we may know or understand one language, we miss the great music of so many other languages.  Here is an opportunity to get an immersion into the rest of the world.  This program will not be like some others called "World Music" that generally offer only Caribbean, African, or Celtic music, but will be as widely varied as possible, and you can decide what influences you like, or who, influenced who else with their music.  I did this show in San Antonio many years ago & it developed quite a cult following and I'll be happy if it develops any kind of following here in Jackson & maybe wider when the station can start streaming & it goes worldwide.  That'd be a kick.  From cowboy country to the world.  Come and enjoy this wonderful music with me, & let me know what you think.  I'll be listening too.  This kind of show will be unique, to KHOL, Jackson Community Radio. 89.1 FM, 2-4pm every Sunday, starting NOW.

Unfortunately, due to the low output from the station's current antenna, you won't be able to hear the program through the walls of your home or business, outside the immediate downtown Jackson area, unless you are in your vehicle, in which case you can hear it for some distance north, south and west of town.  We hope in the near future, that our power output will increase, or our tower location will change such that it will no longer be a problem to pick us up anywhere in the valley.

And, don't forget to tune in weekdays at noon, for Walker and Walt's Noontime Afro-Latin-Jazz Hour.  Fun, mostly uptempo music for your lunchtime listening enjoyment, LIVE, on KHOL.

If you have suggestions for programming, would like to contribute to my library for others to hear the international music you like, a request, or whatever thought you consider relevant, you can contact me at walt@jhcr.org, or visit my personal website: www.theastrocowboy.com.  If you'd like to sponsor/support us by underwriting this program, contact walker@jhcr.org for information and rates.
